About the Day
A comprehensive needs assessment (CNA) is required for all districts and charters that receive NCLB and State Compensatory Education funds. A CNA is the first step of the Campus Improvement Plan process. The Needs Assessment will reveal the area of strengths and needs of a campus. Beyond simple compliance, a thorough needs assessment is a useful tool that drives the progress of the campus toward meeting the mission of the school. In this session, learn the components of an effective needs assessment including the types of data that should be compiled, reviewed, and analyzed to identify areas of strength and need. Explore ways to use this information in developing your charter school’s personalized CNA.
The Campus Improvement Plan, based on needs identified in the Campus Needs Assessment, provides a roadmap to excellence for all students enrolled in your school. In this session learn how to develop an effective campus plan that convers and moves beyond compliance to include measurable objectives and clearly articulated strategies. Strategies, objectives and the funding to complete these will be discussed. Charters will learn how the CIP directly ties to NCLB compliance and planning. An effective plan will provide the framework that moves the school team toward the realization of its vision for all students.
Every Texas Charter School has a mission and vision. The state granted the charter and any amendments (this is the contract between the school and the state) to the school with the ongoing expectation that the charter school is carrying these out. Can your staff easily articulate the mission and vision of the school? Are all policies, procedures, curriculum, staffing and all operations supporting the charter mission and vision? When do you need to amend the charter with the state? This session will provide tools, insights and best practices to help ensure the charter mission and vision are fully integrated to all aspects of the charter operations. A review of the charter, mission and vision are step one in completing a Comprehensive Needs Assessment and Quality Framework.
